“Grantmaking inspires and empowers youth to express their needs so we can make a difference in our community. We learn a professional skill that can be used in our future employment.”– Youth Leader, Bayview Youth Summit Planning Committee (Fall 2015 Grantee)

B.L.I.N.G. (Building Leaders in Innovative New Giving) is YLI’s youth-led social justice philanthropy program in San Francisco. Composed of a group of San Francisco youth, B.L.I.N.G. grantmakers enable SF youth to act on social injustices they see in their communities. Gratmakers use their lived experience as youth in San Francisco to gain leadership development and grantmaking experience. With funding provided by San Francisco’s Department of Children, Youth, & Their Families, B.L.I.N.G. grantmakers distribute a total of $60,000 a year into the community. Twice a year, B.L.I.N.G. grantmakers open applications for youth who are leading social change across the city to apply for grants for up to $5,000 to make their dreams of social change a reality.
