Cynthia Rocha Sapien

Cynthia has been a part of the Youth Leadership Institute team since August 2009.  She has been involved in youth leadership development since high school and continued that passion throughout her college career, mentoring young women in high school, as well as working with the Stockton Jacoby Center for Community Development. Over the past nine years with YLI, she has partnered with youth throughout Fresno County, addressing root causes to community issues, and identifying solutions that elevate youth voice and create positive sustainable change. She strongly believes that all youth have the capacity to lead innovative positive community change, with the support of community allies.

Cynthia is the Health Equity Program Manager for the Fresno YLI office. She oversees the Fresno County Underage Drinking Prevention Work, Tobacco Prevention Work, the Fresno County Friday Night Live Program, and The City of Fresno Youth Commission. As a Trainer for Youth Leadership Institute Training and Consulting Services, Cynthia has also had the privilege of training both youth and adult across the state of California and the larger U.S. on evidence-based youth leadership development strategies.

In recognition of her work with youth, Cynthia was recipient of the 2014 California 31st Assembly District Woman of the Year Award and the 2018 Friday Night Live Adult Ally of the Year Award. Her passions include community, youth, family, and the arts. When she is not at work, you can find her spending time with her husband David and son Davie.
