Valeria Salazar

Valeria grew up in Kerman, CA, 30 minutes west of Fresno and graduated in 2017 from Kerman High School, where she was a participant all four years in the Kerman Friday Light Live (FNL) Chapter and Kerman Youth Commission. She helped plan two Kerman Teen Summits, The S.E.A.R.C.H. scholarship scavenger hunt, and a 5k run Scholarship. She played a large role in helping to pass the Smoke and Tobacco-Free Parks Policy in the City of Kerman. After graduating high school, she was accepted to the FNL California Youth Council as a Fresno representative in the summer of 2017. She has also planned four Statewide FNL Youth Summits that have had over 700 youth attendees from across the state.
Valeria transitioned to serving on the California Youth Council (CYC) Leadership Team in the summer of 2019. She helps with the process of onboarding and mentoring new members in each cycle. She interned for with yli at the start of summer 2018 and provided support for the FNL work in Fresno and Kerman. She is now a Program Assistant for our southeast Fresno FNL sites at Roosevelt and Sunnyside High School.
Valeria is a Senior at California State University, Fresno, majoring in Recreation Administration with an emphasis in Community Recreation and Youth Services. She is also pursuing a Certificate in Special Event Planning. She has a passion for implementing social justice into the Recreation Administration field, as it is a human right for all people to have access to parks and Recreation Activities.
