Wendy grew up in East Los Angeles and is a graduate from UC Berkeley with a degree in Ethnic Studies. In her time at UC Berkeley, she served as a student senator where she, along with formerly incarcerated students, founded the Underground Scholars Initiative: a student-run organization that supports all current and prospective students impacted by mass incarceration. Prior to joining Youth Leadership Institute, she participated in an ten-week summer associate program with The Greenlining Institute where she researched best practices for health care career pipeline programs specifically targeting boys and men of color.
Wendy’s advocacy is deeply rooted in her experience as a low-income woman of color and is informed by her family’s experiences with the prison industrial complex. She is excited to use her experiences in efforts to advocate for racial justice in Marin County.
In her spare time, you will find Wendy playing softball or rooting for the Dodgers!
