San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar Commends YLI Youth

While introducing an ordinance to curb the proliferation of tobacco and cigarette outlets in San Francisco, Supervisor Eric Mar commended YLI TURF (Tobacco Use Reduction Force) on their advocacy work to create momentum for the policy. TURF supplied data by conducting community assessments and an analysis of the disproportionate presence of tobacco in areas such as the Tenderloin, Potrero Hill, Mission and Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhoods.

This new ordinance will address an over concentration of tobacco outlets in low income areas, and especially in communities of color and those significantly comprised of youth and young adults.

The Tobacco Sales Reduction Act was successfully passed thanks to the leadership of Supervisor Eric Mar and his ongoing support. San Francisco now has the most comprehensive regulations on tobacco licenses in the country.
