What is this bill about?
SB 1320 works to combine primary care and behavioral health services, ensuring comprehensive and holistic care for patients, by requiring health plans and insurers to reimburse providers for mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.
How does it align with yli’s values?
yli partners with thousands of youth across the state, the majority of whom are low-income youth of color. In recent years, mental health and substance use have become the core issues around which most of our programming focuses. Our youth depend on us to pass policies that work effectively to address these health crises.
Integrated models for Behavioral Health and Primary Care are essential for addressing the needs of individuals with mental health and substance use conditions. Whether individuals seek help from specialty behavioral health providers or primary care settings, integrated models promote collaboration and enhance overall health outcomes. Luckily, behavioral health is already beginning to become part of the California health care system, but it is not yet required by law. yli supports policies that further this important movement toward holistic care for our communities.
This policy aligns with our Health Justice Platform, which advocates for comprehensive and holistic health care for all people.
