ACA 8

What is this bill about?

If passed, ACA 8 would lower the voting age in California to 17 years old. On August 14, it passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee and is now slated to hit the state house floor for a vote.

How does it align with yli’s values?

Like-minded partner organization Power California says it best: “Young people across the country are mobilizing, marching, and speaking out on critical issues as never before, from the Youth Climate Strike and March for Our Lives to immigrant rights and mass incarceration. They are taking action and advocating for solutions to the urgent issues of our time. It’s time they have a voice – and a vote.” They argue here that youth of color are already leaders in their families and communities; that they’re politically engaged and deserve representation; and that including their voices will strengthen our democracy. We couldn’t agree more.

What is yli doing about it?
