What is this petition about?
On March 8th, ICE arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful permanent resident, because of his activism in support of Palestinian human rights and against the Israeli genocide in Gaza. This letter asks the California Congressional delegation to join in publicly demanding Mahmoud Khalil’s immediate release, and to take other actions to protect free speech and oppose detentions and deportations.

By attempting to criminalize peaceful activism, the current administration is laying the groundwork for mass political repression, starting with immigrant communities and Palestine solidarity organizers, but ultimately targeting all movements for social justice.
