Protecting Nonprofits During COVID-19

What is this letter about?

Nonprofits are in the forefront, not only of serving disadvantaged communities but of standing up for them and making their voices heard in policy arenas. To continue our work, nonprofits need support and resources from the government; the government-nonprofit partnership has never been more critical than it is now. So, we are asking California policymakers to enact emergency measures to protect nonprofits, so we can continue to serve our communities, protect public health, and support our employees.

How does it align with yli’s values?

The coronavirus crisis is already revealing in new ways the inequities and disparities in California, and these inequities make our work to lift up youth voice even more essential. We are moving quickly to develop innovative ways to support our youth and keep them engaged in these disorienting times, but our success requires the flexibility and support of our government partners.

What is yli doing about it?

We have just signed this letter, drafted by the California Association of Nonprofits, addressed to Governor Gavin Newsom, State Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, Senate Budget Committee Chair Holly Mitchell, and Assembly Budget Committee Chair Phil Ting to ensure nonprofit policy concerns are addressed. And, we are voicing our support on social media: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
