Concrete Rose is a youth-led initiative that aims to transform Merced County’s juvenile justice system by empowering young people, especially those directly impacted by the system, to become leaders, researchers, storytellers, and advocates for systemic change. This program specifically supports alleged offenders between the ages of 14 and 24, helping them navigate the justice system and work toward systemic transformation.
Our program understands that the system often overlooks the humanity and potential of young people. That’s why we utilize participatory defense methods to actively support youth. This involves:
- Humanizing the Narrative: We help change how the system sees your family member, focusing on their story, character, and community connections to advocate for their return home.
- Leadership and Empowerment: We don’t just offer defense—we empower young people who are directly impacted to become leaders, storytellers, and advocates for broader change within the system itself.
- Systemic Advocacy: Beyond individual cases, we engage in critical county and state-level advocacy to dismantle barriers and create a justice system that prioritizes rehabilitation and community.
