LA County Tobacco Prevention Program

Join us in the Fight Against Big Tobacco!

Did you know smoking is the #1 preventable cause of death in the U.S., killing over 490,000 people every year? On top of that, secondhand smoke claims more than 19,000 lives annually. But here’s the worst part, Big Tobacco preys on vulnerable communities, deliberately targeting low-income people, queer communities, and people of color with harmful products and deceptive marketing.

For decades, they’ve used predatory advertising, cheap flavored products, and weak secondhand smoke protections to profit at the expense of our health. This isn’t just a health issue, it’s about systemic inequality and public health disparities that disproportionately impact marginalized communities.

But we’re fighting back. In Santa Monica and Gardena, our coalition, Youth Leading Change, are leading the fight against Big Tobacco by exposing these injustices, demanding stronger policies, and reclaiming our communities from Big Tobacco’s harmful influence.
