Youth Community Advocates

Second-hand smoke is now the 3rd leading cause of preventable death, with over 41,000 deaths in the US each year. Through our partnership with LA County Public Health Department, we are 1 of 21 agencies working to create a healthier LA County by protecting residents from second-hand smoke exposure through education and advocacy.

Youth Community Advocates in Santa Monica and Gardena are actively engaged in community campaigns aimed at achieving greater health equity in their neighborhoods. By leveraging storytelling and advocacy, these youth coalitions are developing leadership skills, mastering community-based research techniques, and utilizing multimedia storytelling to advance tobacco prevention efforts.
