Katy Torres (they/them)

Katy is Senior Program Coordinator for our Que Madre Media youth group and uses their skills in writing, editing and graphic design to help youth publish their works in our yearly Que Madre Zines. Focusing on the topic of mental health, Katy uses a holistic approach to talk about how societal structures like income, race, and ethnicity impact the wellbeing of communities and how individuals have access to culturally competent and accessible mental health resources. Their approach to mental health comes from their own background as an immigrant and their time studying public health with an emphasis on immigrant communities as part of their Latin American and Latinx Studies bachelors at UC Santa Cruz.

During their down time, Katy loves to create print art, watch horror films, foster kittens and participate in Riverside County’s Trap Neuter Return program to help reduce the amount of stray cats in their community.
