Michael Yamamura (he/him)

Michael was born and raised in Fresno, graduating from Sunnyside High School in 2022. He first joined the Know Youth Media as a youth reporter in 2020. From there, he had opportunities to be a part of campaigns like Vax58 and work with partner organizations like YR media. That experience, along with his involvement with other local non profits and campaigns, gave him a deep passion for youth-centric advocacy work and community organizing. He strives to continue to advocate for things like youth investment and better solutions to the housing crisis in the Central Valley.

In late 2023, Michael was hired as the Intern for the PoderArte program. He worked as a part of a team to identify key local artists/culture bearers, organize spaces for youth and community members, and ultimately plan a local arts and culture festival that turned out over 500 community members. After his internship, he was hired on as a part of the Prevention and Early Intervention team. Michael hopes to continue to grow as an organizer through his work and continue to advocate for young people in his community.

When he’s trying to relax, Michael enjoys discovering new music, watching slasher movies, and trying new recipes.
