When I first started facilitating, I felt really impatient. Since I had not been in a high school setting in a long time, I had forgotten what it looked and felt like. I had also forgotten how shy young people can be, and how much time it takes for them to open up.
Last week, BLING grantmakers distributed $65,000 to 13 youth-led projects addressing issues that face San Francisco youth, such as sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism, homelessness, and more.
Tobacco products are adapting to our social environments and we need to put a stop to this. We need you to support our campaign as we strive to set a city-wide tobacco retail minimum price and ban the use of coupons, BOGO deals, and any other promotional strategies to purchase tobacco in San Francisco — our city. This isn’t just a health issue, it’s also a social justice issue.
Fighting for tobacco prevention for me is crucial because young kids of color deserve better than this, they don’t need any more direct targeting by big corporations, and most important they do not need tobacco or any tobacco-related products.
