Mason Lam (he/they)

Mason Lam (he/they) is a Long Beach-based youth advocate, filmmaker, and digital media educator passionate about storytelling as a tool to grow deeper with ourselves and each other.

Mason’s intersectional identity as a transmasc Asian American informs his commitment to building a world where BIPOC, queer folks, and young people have the tools to mobilize their visions for themselves and their communities. Through his work at BLD PWR, Youth FX, and Fight Story, Mason has spearheaded storytelling initiatives that champion racial equity in the TV and Film industry, taught technical and creative filmmaking skills to young people of color from historically under-resourced communities, and advocated for mental health and holistic wellness programs across the country.

In his present role as Long Beach Program Manager at yli, Mason oversees several key community programs, including the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, the Youth Tobacco Prevention Program, and VoiceWaves, a home-grown digital journalism program led by Long Beach youth.

Outside of his time at yli, Mason is nourished by adventuring outdoors – swimming, biking, boxing, learning to surf, and spending time with queer community!
