On July 19th 2021, yli’s Merced team led an effort in partnership with community members, local organizations and city council allies to present a resolution to support and protect Black, Indigeneous, People of Color (BIPOC) Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) members of the Merced community. Merced City Council voted 6-0 to further explore a resolution that includes re-establishing a Merced LGBTQIA+ center that will provide support services to enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals of all ages.
The council will return in October with a report and hear proposals for the LGBTQIA+ center.
