What is this statement about?
This statement was created by The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids to demonstrate the depth of support at the local, state, and national level for eliminating all flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes.*
*When we refer to tobacco products, we are referring to commercial tobacco and not ceremonial tobacco which is used by some American Indian communities. Ceremonial use of tobacco does not involve the tobacco industry and their predatory marketing practices.
How does it align with yli’s values?
Flavored products have long been a favorite tobacco industry strategy for targeting young people. Whether it’s with flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes or flavored cigars, the tobacco industry has used flavors to hook young people for decades. This Statement aligns with yli’s Health Justice Platform.
What is yli doing about it?
yli youth have been working directly on this issue for decades. Current programs include Mobilizing Youth to Nix Tobacco (MYNT) in Fresno, Youth Community Advocates in Long Beach, and Community Action Model in San Francisco.
We have also signed this statement, and we are voicing our support on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
