PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Youth Commissioners are the voice of youth in local government. As a recognized entity of city government, the Madera Youth Commission is responsible for advising the Madera City Council and the Mayor on policies and laws related to young people. The Commission is also charged with providing comment and recommendation on all proposed laws that would primarily affect youth before the City Council takes final action.
The Madera Youth Commission is made up of 13 individuals: 7 voting members, and up to 6 honorary members. Each of Madera’s 6 city council districts and the Mayor’s office will be appointed 1 Youth Commissioner. Honorary members are selected commissioners lives in a council district that already has representation. Appointments are for 2-year terms and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

CRITERIA:
Youth ages 15-23
Live in the City of Madera
Attend monthly meetings
10 Hr monthly time requirement
2-year commitment
REQUIREMENTS:
We highly encourage youth from any background between the ages of 15-23 to apply and reside in the district you are applying for. We only ask that you be passionate about youth and community issues–about the decisions the city makes that affect you and your communities!
